SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

CONCEPTION

INNOVATION AND CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES

From the design phase to the end of vehicle life, PEUGEOT teams strive to limit their impact on the environment. In addition to respecting environmental standards, PEUGEOT aims to lead the way in sustainable mobility and is therefore committing considerable resources to reduce the ecological footprint of its vehicles.

TECHNOLOGIES TO REDUCE CONSUMPTION AND EMISSIONS

PEUGEOT is working on the optimization of gasoline and diesel thermal powertrains (including the deployment of Stop and Start devices).

Hybrid4 technology allows the combination of HDi diesel engines and electric propulsion.

The PEUGEOT iOn, the all-new PEUGEOT e-208 and PEUGEOT e-2008 are 100% electric for responsible urban mobility.

GREEN MATERIALS

Groupe PSA intends to assert its leadership in this area, with 30% green materials per vehicle on average (recycled metals, polymers based on green materials, etc.). It goes without saying that these new materials are selected in compliance with quality and safety requirements.

Groupe PSA pays particular attention to the use of green materials in polymers. These are recycled plastics, natural fibers or biomaterials (polymers obtained from renewable resources). Their use allows us to reduce plastics of fossil origin while diversifying the activities of plastic recycling sectors.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DESIGN

DESIGN WITH SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN Mind

  • In terms of product development, PEUGEOT's recycling strategy is structured around two axes:

  • Design with sustainable development in mind
  • Development and implementation of material cycles for vehicle production

INTEGRATED PRODUCT LIABILITY:

Life cycle assessments

Selection of materials focused on sustainable development

Production :

Use of recycled materials (recyclates)

Depollution and pretreatment

European ELV directive

To ensure that all PEUGEOT products meet our recycling objectives, all PEUGEOT design teams must follow the “recyclability/recovery” guidelines.

This process also allows engineers to assess how easily parts, components, etc. can be recycled at the end of the vehicle's life.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DESIGN:

  • Selection of materials focused on sustainable development
  • Depollution
  • Pretreatment
  • PEUGEOT has been using recycled materials, also called “recycled products”, for some time now and their use is constantly increasing. The Group is continuing its efforts to meet its commitment to build vehicles containing 30% recycled materials or biomaterials. From a technical perspective, significant efforts have been made to increase the amount of recycled materials used.
  • Recycled products must meet the same technical requirements as virgin products. Recycled materials are preferred as long as they do not increase the price of the part. Quality is never compromised. Our recycling team makes every effort to maintain quality aesthetics and mechanical and thermal durability, but also to guarantee performance standards.
  • In fact, our recycled materials are of such quality that they can now be used both for the visible parts of PEUGEOT vehicles and for the hidden parts.

FABRICATION

ISO 14001 CERTIFICATION

All our production plants have obtained ISO 14001 certification. This standard (created in 1996) requires factories to: monitor, control and measure the effects of processes on the environment. It engages staff in a process of continuous improvement through appropriate training in environmental protection.

REPAIR AND

PRODUCT WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • The PEUGEOT network is committed to four major criteria in terms of environmental management
  • Sorting and collection of vehicle waste produced by maintenance and repair activities in our network of garages by approved organizations.
  • Network compliance with national and European regulations.
  • Full traceability of vehicle waste until recycling.
  • The sorting and collection of waste produced by maintenance and repair activities is organized according to the brand's end-of-use product management methods.

STANDARD EXCHANGE: A SUPERIOR QUALITY SOLUTION

Do you need to change a part on your PEUGEOT vehicle? Know that you can help reduce its environmental impact by choosing a Standard Exchange part. These are refurbished parts following an extremely rigorous renovation process using used parts collected from PEUGEOT vehicles. These parts benefit from a manufacturer's warranty identical to the warranty accompanying new parts.

AN ECONOMIC AND ECOLOGICAL SOLUTION

Extend the life of your PEUGEOT and ensure that it remains in perfect working order for a limited cost perfectly suited to the age of your vehicle.

Furthermore, you will participate in our commitment to protecting the environment, recycling and limiting vehicle waste.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT OF END-OF-USE PRODUCTS

RECYCLING OF END-OF-USE VEHICLES

Several years ago, PEUGEOT established a partnership with approved dismantling companies to collect and treat motor vehicles of all brands that have reached the end of their life under the best environmental conditions. The objective: to achieve a recovery rate of 95%, with at least 85% reuse of parts and recycling of materials.

RETURN OF YOUR END-OF-USE PEUGEOT VEHICLE

Discount

The last holder returns the end-of-life vehicle to one of our collection partners. After checking the vehicle, our partner issues the necessary certificate of destruction.

Pretreatment and decontamination

First, the battery is removed and the airbags are deactivated. Our recovery partner then removes all fuel and other liquids from the end-of-life vehicles. This includes engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, and air conditioning fluid.

Disassembly

The next step is to disassemble the components and systems to sell them as used parts or use them as the basis for remanufactured parts. If economically viable, materials such as plastic and glass are removed for recycling.

Storage area

Materials representing a danger to the environment are collected and then sent to companies specializing in recovery to be recycled or eliminated.

Crusher

The pre-treated carcasses are sent to a crusher which separates the materials from end-of-life vehicles and sorts them for recycling or recovery.

Post-grinding technologies

The fractions thus obtained are then treated using different technologies (magnetic, eddy currents, flotation) to extract fractions of materials which can be used as secondary raw materials.

Recycling/recovery/landfilling

The fractions of materials produced by the crusher and through post-grinding technologies can be recycled (for example, to replace coal in blast furnaces or for drying sewage sludge) or recovered by the cement industry. This process recovers 95% of the vehicle and considerably reduces the quantity of waste sent to landfill sites.

RESEAU DE REPRISE - RECYCLEZ VOTRE PEUGEOT

We have always done our best to respect the environment, but today recycling is no longer a choice: it is a legal obligation enshrined in national regulations on end-of-life vehicles. This recycling approach requires manufacturers to reduce the quantity of waste generated during vehicle production and at the end of their life cycle.

PEUGEOT owners can contact a PEUGEOT network representative to return their vehicle when it has reached the end of its life. This service is free and subject to certain conditions (see below).

We want to ensure that your end-of-life vehicle is recycled in an environmentally friendly manner. This is why we ensure that all our recovery sites comply with the legal requirements of the regulations concerning end-of-life vehicles. All our vehicle take-back partners, all processes and the documentation of all incoming and outgoing material flows are also checked by our recycling experts.

The free return of your end-of-life PEUGEOT only applies in the following cases:

No essential components or parts are missing

The vehicle does not contain non-automotive waste

The vehicle has up to 9 seats or is a light utility vehicle weighing up to 3.5 tonnes

The vehicle was last registered in the EU

The original vehicle documents were delivered with the vehicle

Return your end-of-life vehicle to our recovery partner who will give you a certificate of destruction and the necessary documents to cancel its registration. You will leave with the certainty that your old car will be destroyed with the greatest respect for the environment.
